Diet coke. I drink a lot of it. When I say a lot I feel its a lot. Some days all I drink is Diet Coke. Perhaps a double espresso as well although that doesn’t make it better. I can easily polish off a 30 box in a few days, especially if I’m off and doubly especially if I’m on the Xbox for a good evening’s gaming session.

The problem is though, I’m starting to get a bit sick, the doctors don’t really know what the cause is. There’s a possibility that it could be IBS or IBD. Some times I’m ok other times I’m not, there’s no real pattern to it. At first, I thought that It might be diet related, so I cut out both Dairy and Gluten. Did things get better? Nope. They got worse. So I’ve reintroduced these back in and things arn’t as bad!

Time to make some changes

So it’s these things that have led me to want to kick the Diet Coke. I mean it does taste really nice, you can’t say that it doesn’t! But is it good for you?

well first off, its PH level is 3.28. So its really acidic. Oh and you know the enamel on your teeth? That will start to dissolv at anything below ph level 5.5. So thats one big fat No to is it good for you.

There have been hundreds of studies done on this sweetener, which is 200 times sweeter than sugar! So you don’t need to use much of this stuff! Which is just as well as it is toxic to human life in large quantities. Don’t worry though you will need to drink 1600 cans of diet coke a day for it to be harmful. That’s a huge amount and I don’t think that is possible to do. Anyway It has been approved by a number of Health organisations including the World Health Organisation.

So apart from dissolving your teeth there really isn’t much wrong with diet drinks. Except I feel dreadful these days when I drink too much of then. I’ve just drunk a pint of diet coke and I can feel my belly bloating out. with the pinching pain in my left side starting to creep in.

So thats it, from tomorrow I’m going to stop drinking diet coke.

What to expect when giving up Diet Coke?

I will be honest i’m not sure what to expect, I will follow up with a second blog though. After a quick google search, the following symptoms can occur;

  • Headaches
  • Shakes
  • Fatigue
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Heart palpitations
  • Mood swings

At least Death isn’t on the list!

I’m not sure if some of these symptoms are real symptoms of giving up diet coke. Or have they just been added in to ‘spice up’ the posts that I have read?! (you can check it out here. Just remember to press the back tab to come back!)

I doubt that the World Health Organisation would approve this additive if these were the side effects when you stop drinking it.

Either way I’m going to find out and hopefully, my belly gets a bit better in the process. The effects can last up to month!? which again I’m not 100% sure about, but again, I’m about to find out!

So stay tuned and look out for part 2!
